Influx of New Zealander's returning home may delay lifting of LVR's

May 19, 2014

A few years ago our neighbours back yard looked a lot greener and Kiwis crossed the ditch for higher wages and a better standard of living. The tide is turning and many are heading back, and for the first time in years, there is the real possibility that the numbers heading this way will out number the those moving to Australia, Tracey Watkins reports.

" Bank of New Zealand economist Tony Alexander said yesterday he expected the crossover point to come this year. The main driver was fewer Kiwis leaving for Australia "because the allure of Australia has diminished quite a bit".

Alexander said the migration surge would likely add pressure to house prices - making it less likely the Reserve Bank would ease restrictions on the size of deposit required for mortgage lending."
