Rental Housing Warrant of Fitness

September 10, 2013

The New Zealand Government is in the process of developing a new initiative to carry our Warrant of Fitness checks on rental properties. At this stage there is no decision to require these checks to be carried out on privately owned rental properties. All Government owned Housing New Zealand properties will require these checks to be made to ensure that the meet the necessary standards for tenants to reside in healthy, efficient and safe property.

The private market could be targeted for these Warrant of Fitness checks once the cost-benefit analysis is completed along with considerations for impacts to tenants and landlords.
