WOF for Rental Properties Kicks Off in New Zealand

February 21, 2014

Following up on our reports on WOF's for rental properties, the scheme will start with 500 Housing New Zealand Homes between now and July.

How and when it may roll out to private rentals is still not clear. Housing Minister Nick Smith said today, “The Government has not made any decisions about the wider application of the Warrant of Fitness to other social housing providers or the private rental market. Our first duty is to ensure our own house is in order. We also want to test the trial scheme to ensure it is practical and cost effective.”

There is much debate around the scheme rolling out in to the private sector with claims that it is the tenants who will end up paying for the WOF system increasing rental costs. Learn more on Property Noise.
